Fiorentina captain dies aged 31

News broke on Sunday morning of the death of Davide Astori, the captain of Italian Serie A club Fiorentina. Aged 31, his death was sudden and unexpected.

Tributes have poured in for the Italian international and all Serie A games were postponed after the news broke, including the Milan derby.

LAFC secure first ever MLS win

There was much excitement in Los Angeles as the brand new MLS club recorded their first win in their first match.

Diego Rossi, assisted by former-Arsenal-man Carlos Vela, grabbed their first ever league goal and it was enough to see off a strong Seattle Sounders side.

Is Conte trying to get the sack?

I’m sure you’ve seen the video by now. With almost 15 minutes remaining and Chelsea trailing 1-0, their players are at walking pace as they let Manchester City keep the ball. It was a disgrace and begs the question is Conte trying to get the sack? 

“His side were not pressing, or trying to close City’s players down. It was all very passive” said former Chelsea man Ruud Gullit in his assessment.

VAR gets the green light

Despite increased controversy and opposition by a number of football fans, Video Assistant Referees (VAR) has been give the green light by The International Football Association Board (Ifab), who ‘unanimously approved’ it’s use.

That means that we’ll be seeing VAR at this summer’s World Cup, and no doubt introduced to the Premier League in the near future.
