50 career hat-tricks for Cristiano Ronaldo
The Real Madrid star scored a hat-trick for the 50th time in his career during his side’s 6-3 win over Girona. It’s 19 goals in his last 10 matches for Ronaldo, who looks to be hitting top form once again. This hat-trick – the 50th of his career – took place 10 years and two months after his first career hat-trick in a Manchester United win over Newcastle.
Mark Hughes wins first game as Southampton boss
There was many questions asked (including by this site) after Southampton hired Mark Hughes to save them from relegation. The former Stoke City boss, though, took his first steps in silencing the critics with a win against Wigan Athletic to send the Saints to Wembley for the FA Cup semi-final. The irony of Hughes getting knocked out in the 3rd round whilst managing Stoke and now being in the semi-final with Southampton is not lost on many.
Napoli win, Serie A hots up
Napoli have been this season’s golden boys across Europe, but a recent slump in form saw them lose ground to Juventus in the race for the Scudetto. Their 1-0 win over Genoa on Sunday evening will cause Juventus “real problems” according to boss Maurizio Sarri. One things for sure is that Serie A is hotting up as the race for the title goes on.
Is something suspicious going on in the Championship?
Neil Warnock certainly thinks so. After their Sunday lunchtime game against Derby was postponed due to snow, Warnock raged. It’s easy to see why. There was little evidence of snow by the stadium and the club’s shop was even open and encouraged visitors on Twitter. Coupled with the fact that Cardiff managed the journey absolutely fine to the stadium and plenty of fans did too, there’s suspicion that Derby called the tie off to counter their massive injury problem.
